She may be 57, but Sharon Stone looks fabulously youthful in her nud@ photo-shoot for Harper’s Bazaar. Flaunting her envy-worthy figure, the actress opened up about her career, love life and surviving a brain aneurysm. In the interview, Stone recalled the aftermath of the aneurysm she survived in 2001 and the impact it had on her career and marriage.
After feeling unwell for three days, the Basic Instinct star was admitted to the ER where doctors informed her she had suffered a stroke and she lost consciousness shortly after being admitted. The aneurysm and cerebral hemorrhage that lasted for nine days left Stone unable to read, stuttering, and walking with a limp.
Subsequently her career was affected as she found difficulty in remembering her lines. Shortly afterwards her marriage also broke down and she lost custody of her son. The aneurysm left Stone feeling as though her “entire DNA changed.” It took years for her vision to return to normal and for her to eliminate the stutter. She admitted that it also left her “more emotionally intelligent” and “abrasively direct.”
In an effort to restart her career, Stone took a guest role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2010. She revealed the humiliation she felt during her time on Law & Order, saying, “Having worked with the finest people in the industry, I was like ‘wow, I’m really at the back of the line here.’”
Stone overcame her humiliation telling Harper’s Bazaar, “I thought ‘you know what? I got thrown off the bullet train, and now I’m going to have to crawl up a hill of broken glass, get back on the train that’s going a million miles an hour, and make my way from the cattle car up…Because if I can’t do this job, I’m certainly not going to be able to do anything else.’”
Known for her seductive roles, Stone admits in reality her love life needs lots of improvement, “I never get asked out, it’s so stupid I don’t know what to do,” she revealed.
As for her career now, Stone will play newly elected vice president Natalie Maccabee on TNT’s upcoming spy drama Agent X.
