We all have days when we wish the society’s norms would change and it would be completely acceptable for women to shed their bras. Bras can be uncomfortable. I know I have days when I absolutely hate bras.
Some days I can’t wait to get home and just get that damn thing off of me and throw it across the room, as far from me as possible. But let’s learn to differentiate between the discomfort of wearing a bra that’s the wrong size and just daily nuances we come across as bra-wearers.
1. Storing: Bra’s take up lot of space and storing them can be a problem. It’s not like you can just throw them into your closet and hope for the best. Preserving their shape is important and has a direct effect on how long they will last you.
The first storing hack is to hang them all up on one hanger they won’t get weird folds, they won’t take up much space and will be on display for you all the time. The second storing hack will work better for those of us who have a lot of bras. Just dedicate a whole drawer for bras. That way you can stack them up against each other and it’ll help to preserve their shape.
2. Packing: I always have a problem with my bras when I start packing for a trip. Do I fold them? But that might damage the shape. Do I just place them neatly into my suitcase? That takes up like half of the precious suitcase space.
Well, as it turns out the solution is extremely easy just get a case for your bras. There’s generally 2 kinds of cases: one’s that are actually shaped like a bra and the Cup-Case.
3. Washing: We know that pretty much all bras should be hand washed, but if we’re honest, we don’t always do the right thing. Washing your bras in the washing machine, with the rest of your clothes can seriously damage them, even if you put it on the gentle cycle.
If you’re lazy, like me, and can’t be bothered to hand wash your delicate, get yourself a Berry Ball bra washer. This simple invention will save you a lot of time and money. This way you can throw it into the washing machine and not worry about your bra twisting, stretching or getting damaged.
4. Drying: Since you can’t really put your bras into the dryer, it takes a while for them to dry. You’re supposed to just hang them up and wait. That can take days. But what if I told you there’s a way to speed up the drying process?
You don’t even need any special appliances. Just grab your salad spinner and use it to get the extra water out of your bra. It won’t get your bra completely dry, but it’ll definitely speed things up.
5. Hiding straps: If you’re annoyed by your bra straps showing from under your clothes, there’s a very simple way of fixing that. All you have to do is sew in a bra strap holder into your top.
This way you’ll be able to just clip in your bra straps to your top and they’ll never show again. There’s a couple of ways of doing that. You can either use this tutorial or you can just google it and figure it out yourself. Either way it doesn’t look like rocket science, so I’m sure you’ll do fine.
6. Racer-back: You don’t have to buy a new racer-back bra for that one top you have. You can easily make your own. Actually, you can make any of your bras into racer-back bras.
All you need is a racer back bra clip. They come in a variety of shapes and colors. For those situations where you need one and don’t have time to buy one a simple paper clip will do.
7. Strapless hacks: Strapless bras have a tendency to slide down and they’re generally quite useless, especially if you have bigger breasts. There’s a way to make a strapless bra stay in place.
Take one convertible strap and use it to secure the bottom of the bra by wrapping it all around. You should also keep in mind that you don’t always have to go strapless, there’s plenty of situations where bras with convertible straps will come in handy.
8. Low Back: It’s not always the straps that cause the most problems. Occasionally you’ll come across a dress that is perfect in every way, except the back is just a bit too low and your bra band is showing. For those cases you can either buy yourself a “low expectations” bra converter or make your own.
If you have a backless casual top and don’t want everyone to see your bra band cut it off and replace with tree straps. It’ll still feel secure, but also look hella cool.
9. Backless Dress: If you have a summer dress that’s got such a low back that there’s no way of hiding the band, yet you don’t want to go bra-less just sew in the bra into the dress.
It’s genius right? How did we not think of this before? This way you’ll still feel secure that your nips won’t show and it’ll give you extra support.
10. Shoulder Strap Cutting In: This hack is helpful for those who’ve had the misfortune of experiencing the excruciating discomfort of their bra straps cutting into their skin. Make your life easier by investing in some bra strap cushions.
They come in all sorts of colors and sizes and even different materials. Some are made of silicone, some have gel inside them and some are just made of soft material. Either way you’ll be glad you got some. Your shoulders will thank you.
